Morton's of Chicago in Clayton, Missouri runs a cigar club that meets ostensibly on the third Monday of each month except holidays, when it is normally moved to the following Tuesday night.
Danielle Archambault, the Club organizer for Morton's, invited me to attend a club night as her guest on February 18, 1997 (a Tuesday meeting because of President's Day). In attendance also were a representative of a Saville Row tailor and a single-malt scotch vendor with samples of five of their scotches. The featured cigar of the evening was a corona-sized Dominican natural wrapper cigar from Aguila, a private label brand of F&K Cigar Co. of St. Louis. Along with most of the members in attendance, I found the cigar to be on the bland side, but the scotches were wonderful (I sampled all five)!
I enjoyed my evening at Morton's Cigar Club very much and met some very nice people. I was also surprised to meet someone I knew there: Gonzalo Fernandez (gonzo7@earthlink.net), an attorney who worked at Anheuser-Busch during the same period that I did.
There are two membership levels: Level I, "Corona", is $400 annually. At this level you get admission to six club events with six guest passes, a Golf/Polo shirt embroidered with the club membership level and the Morton's logo, and a Morton's of Chicago double-bladed cigar cutter. I saw both the shirt and the cutter during my visit and both looked very nice.
Level II Membership, "Corona Grande", is $600 annually and includes all the level one goodies with admission to ten club events (and ten guest passes), a Morton's of Chicago Martini Club Martini Glass and recognition on the Morton's of Chicago Cigar Club Membership Plaque, displayed in the lounge.
Upcoming Club Events are on March 18, April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21 and September 30.
