Since Tinder Box normally locates it's stores in large shopping malls, one would expect their prices to be on the high side for that reason alone (high rent).

The Tinder Box at Northwest Plaza prices their stock about 3% - 5% higher than the norm for this area. Considering their mall location, though, that seems reasonable. On the other hand, they also have a "box club" where they keep your name on a card and every 11th box you buy is free (or at least they credit an average of the previous 10). That makes up for even that extra 5% markup for their regular box-buying customers, making them competitive for us heavy smokers.

It then comes down to selection. While they don't have everything all the time (who does), I have found cigars and quantities there that I can't find elsewhere (example: I just bought a box of Partagas #10's there for $57.00 when they are limited in other stores--if they are available at all).

All things considered then, Tinder Box does a pretty good job.

Our cigar prices are all at manufacturer's suggested retail price plus the Missouri State tobacco tax. Everyone in Missouri who sells cigars or pipe tobacco has to charge the OTP tax. We show the total price (including this tax) on each box in the humidor. Some stores don't show that price on the box but then add it on at the register so it looks like you're getting a better price. We would rather show the total price up front so the customer knows just what he's paying. If you have any questions please give me a call at 741-0899.
